Parallel Narratives of Design
This third year design history course explores the rich and often overlooked design traditions that fall outside the Western canon. Created for students from a variety of design fields including graphic design, illustration, interaction design, game arts, animation, and interior architecture, it brings together a wide range of global examples through a multidisciplinary lens. The course critically examines crafts, decorative arts, textiles, fashion, photography, toys, and games from the 19th century to the postwar period, with emphasis on the evolving socio-political contexts.
